Vancouver Beijing Chinese School Society, founded in 1996, is a non-profit Chinese language institution established by scholar from mainland China and registered with the provincial government.Guided by its mission to teach the Chinese language, promote traditional Chinese virtues, and contribute to Canada’s multicultural landscape, the School is committed to fostering both linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding. Upholding a strong sense of responsibility to students, parents, and the broader community, the School maintains rigorous standards in faculty selection, academic governance, and instructional practice, cultivating a disciplined and supportive learning environment. The School is distinguished by a highly qualified and dedicated teaching team. In recruiting educators, equal emphasis is placed on professional expertise and personal integrity, with particular attention to qualities such as care, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility. The majority of teachers hold degrees in Chinese language, education, or early childhood education from leading teacher-training institutions in China, including many highly experienced and award-winning educators from elementary, secondary, and early childhood settings.A structured and well-articulated system of academic policies, encompassing homework review, attendance, assessment, and recognition, ensures effective learning and accountability among students, teachers, and families alike. Students learn in a safe, supportive, and well-managed environment. Grounded in a long-term educational vision, the School thoughtfully integrates elements of traditional Chinese culture into its curriculum to cultivate students’ moral development and cultural awareness. The school has developed a comprehensivecurriculum with clearly defined expectations across all domains of Chinese language learning, including pinyin, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students are placed into appropriate levels based on assessment to ensure optimal learning outcomes. Particular emphasis is placed on pinyin instruction to support success in AP Chinese examinations, while systematic writing development begins from Grade 3 onwards. Instruction is based on specialized Chinese-language textbooks developed by the College of Chinese Language and Culture at Jinan University for overseas Chinese learners. Simplified Chinese characters are used, and Mandarin serves as the primary medium of instruction, creating an immersive Chinese environment for students. To further enrich students’ learning experiences and sustain their interest in Chinese, the School organizes and supports participation in a wide range of cultural and academic activities. These include the BC Chinese Essay Contest, poetry recitation competitions, Chinese culture camps, storytelling summer camps, the Roots-Seeking study tour in China, and other educational initiatives. The School collaborates with Chinese-language media and the High Degree magazine to host ongoing student writing features, including Collection of Excellent Chinese Works and Little Lotus Buds. The school offers a full range of programs, including preschool, regular classes from Grades 1-12, advanced-level courses (beginner, intermediate, and advanced), Chinese Challenge Exam preparation, AP Chinese Exam preparation, as well as Spring Break and Summer programs. In response to evolving educational needs, the School also provides online learning options, along with a variety of enrichment and intensive courses (see the detailed program descriptions for more information).
